Breakfast

Not just for a dancer but for everyone in general, breakfast is such an important meal and yet a meal we are so quick to pass, forget, or incorrectly start the day with. I am definitely one of the people who used to pass on the breakfast because I love sleep too much and I will not leave the house without doing my hair and make up so skipping breakfast was the timesaver.

I knew a lady who had to have a can of coca cola, a sachet of an energy supplement (most probably full of so much rubbish), and a headache tablet before she started the day and before she had breakfast! It made me cringe every day.

First of all some caffeine in coffee or tea is a good wake me up boost. Sugar should really be natural or you simply start the day with a high to crash mid morning, and breakfast should be natural and full of goodness to kick start your metabolism.
These simple breakfast bars, popular cereals, even muffins are loaded with artificial sugar and in all honesty its as bad as eating nothing.

Fresh fruit, honey, natural granola mix and plain organic yoghurt is a wonderful mix but it doesn't have to stop there. There are natural and organic breakfast bars you can make yourself, organic vegan muffin recipes and the favourite at the moment avocado mashed on toast. Yes avocado is full of healthy fats and oils and mashed with some balsamic vinegar or lemon juice is a perfect way to jazz up the breakfast toast. There is salmon too as an option, either poached or smoked on a bagel. Try it with natural cream cheese spread. Salmon is full of that needed Omega 3 oil too.

Don't forget eggs, personally I am not the greatest fan but they are full of protein and a good start to the day. Eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, an omelette, but try not have fried eggs too many times or try supplement the oil for a healthier alternative, like coconut oil cooking spray. Lastly, there is the old fashioned and nutritious oats option. Go for the organic, healthy, unprocessed brands and the toppings are endless - from fruit, nuts, honey or even give cinnamon sprinkled over it a try!
Moderation is key for any food, preparation and whether it's fresh or man made nonsense. Breakfast doesn't have to make you too full or take up half the morning to make, simply plan ahead and make even the night before. Simply put we need a healthy and nutritious start to the day, dancers or not.
