What I learnt from these dancers:
Michaela DePrince -
This ballerina taught me that no matter what you are born into and what life gives you; if you have courage, perseverance and hard work you can achieve your dreams. Her book Taking Flight was one of those life changing reads that inspired me very much.
A simple write up doesn't seem to suffice just how inspirational this ballerina is. This ballerina is a wonderful inspiration to have for accepting yourself and loving your body for exactly how it is - flaws, strengths and everything.
Dita Von Teese -
This visionary is proof that whatever your dream looks like if you can visualise it, it can happen.
Who else would love to take their dream and turn it into an empire? This inspirational dancer even has bespoke pointe shoes made - that is seriously the stuff dreams are made of! To some in the beginning, your dreams might sound unheard of but it really is worth remembering who would have ever thought Burlesque and Ballet could work so well!
Audrey Hepburn - We remember this lady as the exquisite person she was. It's easy to remember her solely for her beauty but she was so much more. She had an incredibly difficult childhood, with the horrors of war and even struggling with malnutrition due to food shortages. She went on to be a wonderful actress that created classic films and just had a fashion sense some could only dream of. She even had the singing voice of an angel!
Audrey was a beautiful dancer too, such a natural and so elegant even in dance. She reminds me that life can seem picture perfect; but our struggles shouldn't cover the wonderful talents we have or what we are capable of. We are also able to be remembered for so much more, not just being beautiful on the outside.
Brooke Lockett - I only really started following this former ballerina towards the end of her career, before she retired from the stage.
She is full of life, enthusiasm and really is the definition of bubbly which makes her such a pleasure. She has a grace about her whether onstage or offstage. She is a wonderful reminder that whether or not you were able to go professional with your dance or ballet career, that there is life after ballet.
I plan on having ballet very much a part of my life as it's been a long journey getting to this point. However, if you were fortunate enough to go professional and you need some reassurance before considering retirement - there is life after a professional ballet career. Unlike Brooke, ballet can still be your career once you leave the stage or you can be adventurous and take a totally different route!
Either way you know what's best and you need to follow your heart. Thank you Brooke for inspiring us in more ways than one.
May you fellow dancers and dance lovers find another week of inspiration from a mix of inspiring dancers!
