Kathryn Morgan New York City Ballet Soloist
I have followed Kathryn on Instagram for a while and love her page and posts. She shares the knowledge she has and really aims to inspire us ballerinas and dancers.
I haven't followed her career for very long but was incredibly sad to hear that she left her company in 2012 due to an auto immune disease. On a very happy note http://kathrynmorganonline.com/kathryn-morgan/ advises ' She has since regained her health and currently performs, teaches, and speaks around the country, runs two highly successful YouTube channels, her podcast “The Kathryn Morgan Show”, has her own app, and is currently working on many other exciting projects.'
How she must have struggled to overcome her health problems and what a difficult time that must have been for Kathryn. Whether she still struggles with health problems is unknown but she definitely deserves an Inspiration Tuesday post as she can definitely inspire us in our darkest times.
I haven't had a ballet class in about a year and I haven't had a pointe class for about two years. I had to take time off for various reasons ranging from no pointe work due to lack of adult pointe work classes, to having to find another studio as I didn't feel I fit in with the current one I was at, to having to eventually stop ballet classes for about a year due to health reasons.
I have slowly started to be gentle on myself and give myself the time I needed. I was so hard on myself as I felt I was wasting time and as I didn't have a physical health problem preventing my dancing, I felt incredibly low at times with the pressure I was putting on myself.
I have learned it's ok to stop, for whatever reason or simply for the fact you need time and it's ok to stop for however long you need-whether it's a few days, weeks, months or years.
Be gentle and know it's not time wasted, its time of healing so that you can progress forward to your goals healthy; physically and in your mind too.
It's still a battle daily as I have to make the decision to stop beating myself up and be gentle every day. I am slowly starting to get back into things again, starting with going to the gym - hopefully this month, to regain my fitness before I start to look for adult ballet classes in the city I work in.
In the end the fairytale does come true, if you persevere and never loose sight of your goals. Whether it's a gradual progression towards your goal, you finally get that dance studio or in Kathryn's case you get married to the man you love!
Thank you Kathryn for the example of inspiration, strength and beauty. Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs.
